Mandalay overview

Myanmar’s second largest city is renowned for its three M’s: Monks, millionaires and motorcycles. Although when mentioned, Mandalay invokes memories of the Burma of old, it is a relatively new city, but does in fact offer a unique insight into the more recent history of Burma. In the 19th century, Mandalay was the capital of Burma and home to the Royal Palace, which today is a popular tourist attraction. Mandalay is famous for its religious sites and many other tourist attractions, including Mandalay Hill, a sizeable pagoda situated on a hill which offers stunning views of the entire city. Travellers to Mandalay will find the city abundant with plenty of cheap places to stay and a huge variety of food on offer.
